Two Digit Addition #2

The addition operation constitutes one of the most basic subjects to be learned, especially in the early stages of school life. By learning this subject well, it is ensured that all other subjects in the field of mathematics and geometry can be grasped clearly. We use addition operations not only in mathematics but also in daily life.

It is the process of expressing the quantitative values of two or more entities together in mathematics. It means to increase or multiply.

Addition without Regrouping

In cases where the sum of the numbers in the ones and tens place does not exceed two digits, it is expressed as adding without regrouping. In the process here, first, the units are collected and then the tens are added. The symbol of the operation is ‘+’.

Example:

There are 6 yellow apples, 2 red apples, and 0 apples in three separate baskets on a table. So how many apples are there in total on the table?

6 + 2 + 0 = 8

As you can see, the number 0 has no effect on the addition operation.

Addition with Regrouping

In the process of addition with regrouping, the units must first be added. In the next step, the tens are added among themselves. If tens are obtained during the process of adding the units, then the tens of the existing values are included in the addition process.

⇒⇒⇒ Changing the position of the addends in the addition does not change the result.
