Verb to Be – Am/Is/Are

“TO BE” is the basic verb used to describe objects, and to indicate their properties, places, and positions.

It appears as am/ is /are in the simple present tense.

“am” is used for “I”.

“is” is used for “He, She, It”.

“are” is used for “You, We, They”.

The verb ‘to be’ is used as “am not”, “is not” or “are not” in negative sentences. Its short form is “isn’t” or “aren’t”.

Examples:

  • I am 12 years old.
  • My mom is a talented translator.
  • They are late for school again.
