The first thing that comes to mind about phonics is Magic E. It is fun to teach and learn Magic E. The e at the end of a word that ends in a single vowel and a single consonant changes the vowel sound and makes it say its name. This is what makes it MAGIC. For example, when you add ‘e’ to the word  ‘hug’, ‘u’ in the new word sounds different, and our magic e becomes completely silent.

Here are a few examples:

  • Fat + e → Fate
  • Kit + e → Kite
  • Mat + e → Mate
  • Hat + e → Hate
  • Tap + e → Tape
  • Cub + e → Cube

Exceptions of the magic “e” rule are as follows: live, some,  have, love, come, glove, above, cover.

The Magic-e quizzes you will find here makes it easier for you to comprehend the Magic-E rule and test your knowledge.
