QUESTION OF THE DAY

Math, Word Problems – Pizza Sharing

QUESTION:

There is a group of 10 people who are ordering pizza. If each person gets 3 slices and each pizza has 6 slices, how many pizzas should they order?

The correct ANSWER is ⇒ 5 pizzas

SOLUTION

Let’s find the total number of slices needed first.

We should multiply the number of people by the number of slices for each person, that is

10 x 3 = 30

Now we should find how many pizzas can provide us with 30 slices. For this, we should divide 30 by 6 as each pizza has 6 slices.

30 / 6 = 5

OR

Each person gets 3 slices, which means 1/2 of a pizza. When we multiply the number of people by a half  (10 x 1/2) we get 5 again.
